About Us

In 2011, 44 Burns Street was a small house (built in 1910) and in need of some tender loving care.  Chris and Mairi had just bought it, had an exciting vision for the place, and set about a comprehensive and quality renovation. The original part of the house was their home, which they extended to accommodate their family.   In 2018, they extended the property again to create "Two Rivers - Luxury Accommodation", starting with the Mangawhero and Mangateitei guest rooms.  In 2019, they added the self-contained Rua Awa Suite to provide the three luxurious rooms we offer today.

In 2024, after building a successful business and enviable reputation, Chris and Mairi decided it was right to pass on the baton.   Ula and Scott have now bought Two Rivers, making it our home in a place we love.  We will continue to offer three rooms of luxurious accommodation.  It is our aim to continue the impressive work of Chris and Mairi and to gradually build upon the offering that we make available.

For a long time, Ula has had a dream of offering a 'retreat', a place where people can come and recharge.  Both of us have spent years working in the city and we know the value of green space.  Every time we access the mountain, we feel energised, whether we are skiing, cycling, or walking the tracks. 

​

Both of us love being within walking distance of central Ohakune, with its abundance of coffee choices, locally brewed beer, and great food.  Two Rivers is on the edge of town, it is serene and peaceful. While the gentle noise of the wind in the tall trees and the constant flow of the two rivers provides a sense of tranquility, the facilities of Ohakune are just a short walk away, through natural bush along the banks of the Mangateitei.  Enjoy all that Ohakune has to offer and then retreat to your own safe space.

Two Rivers has organically evolved to provide accommodation for discerning couples and professional visitors to the area.  We are open to everyone and anyone that wants to share in our love for the area.  The rooms are cosy, and do not allow for cots or additional mattresses.  If you want to bring your children, then please contact us to discuss your requirements before booking. We want everyone to feel welcome and valued, but we also need to maintain the serenity and peace that our guests expect.
